Enterprise published this School Budget letter...
Dear Parents,
Brevard County Schools has a Parent Leadership team with parents representing each school in the county. I have attended these meetings representing Enterprise Elementary for approximately one year. Handouts and notes from these meetings are kept in a binder in the front office for anyone to review.
At our last meeting Wednesday January 21st, Dr. DiPatri presented information regarding the district’s budget and proposed cuts, emphasizing the significance this represents (full impact not known at this time) to students, teachers and programming. Significant cuts have already been made this year but this may just be the tip of the iceberg. Dr. DiPatri has asked school administrators, teachers, parents and anyone who is concerned to take action by writing and calling our Florida Legislators to emphasize the importance of finding other means of balancing the state of Florida’s budget than cutting deeper in school funding.
Our children being unfairly treated stirs an emotion within that calls us to action. We have the opportunity to take intelligent, influential action to address this threat to our children’s education. On Monday February 23, from 7 – 9pm there will be a Town Hall Meeting with our elected representatives. This is our opportunity to act on that emotion in a manner that can create change. There is power in numbers! The more folks who attend to ask our legislators how they plan to insure we maintain smaller class sizes, offer much needed programs such as summer school and other means of remediation, challenge top performing students, pay teachers a fair salary and benefits, etc. - the more likely they are to “hear” our message. This is not a request to parents who are activists, this is a request to parents who are going to be angry when these proposed cuts hurt their children. It’s not convenient for anyone to give up one more evening or miss a kid’s practice, but it is necessary and it is time.
Please join parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone else who wants to attend, in making a positive impact in your child’s schooling. It will be a good opportunity to teach our children that we can make a difference. Please also consider attending the Wednesday, 2/17 meeting in the Media Center with Mrs. Lee who will present more specific information about these cuts. This will help prepare us with thoughts and questions we want to ask the legislators.
Respectfully,
Christy Tagye
