I spoke to Dr. Bobay yesterday. He was very understanding and really wanted to hear our concerns. He wanted to stress that soft redistricting is an IDEA of the school boards to help alleviate the under and over enrollment problems in the area. He explained the the state looks on paper and sees that Clearlake is enrolled at 60% and Space Coast is over 100%. The state will not allow us to build any more schools until this is corrected. This is not concrete, yet. It will be come a definitive proposal in February and then voted on in March. If we want that to change we need to give them a better idea.
When they do come up with the definitive proposal, an add will be put in the paper and at that time Dr. Dipatri might have a parent meeting but not until February.
He did confirm that as the proposal states now rising 6th grade students with in the boundaries that were set, will go to Clearlake next year. The only rising 6th graders within the boundaries that will not go to Clearlake are the ones with siblings in the current 7th grade at Space Coast. Thus, not splitting up middle school siblings. That’s as the proposal states now.
Dr. Bobay also said that Jackson Middle School is not included in this plan.
I asked him, “What can we do as a community?” He said, “Continue doing what you are doing.” Dr. Bobay would like to be copied on any letters or emails sent to the board members or Dr. Dipatri since he is monitoring all the concerns in regards to this subject. He invites anyone with questions or comments to call him at (321) 269-3826.
I think the next step is to push the idea to turn Challenger 7 into a middle school for 6-8 grades. We need to let the board members know what we think. They are elected officials for that reason. They are supposed to represent the community.
We also need to send emails and letters to the state legislature. If anyone knows the correct people to contact. Please post it.
Continue to send emails and letters. Attend school board meetings. Make the PSJ community aware.
I watched the replay of the meeting last night. Excellent job to those that spoke on our behalf!

My concern is that proposing a plan about changing Challenger will divide PSJ then nothing will get accomplished.
I don't have the answer.
Are we, SCHS, already closed to out of area?
Clearlake zoned students should be going to Clearlake, it's an A school--how do we make parents send their kids there without bussing our kids out.
Will our students change it from a title I school and make them lose 100k in funding? Don't penalize the school by sending more students in and cut funding the same year--there will be resentment toward the new students.
Idea?!? It's an idea they plan to go forward with. I watched the school board meeting, they don't have two plans just this plan/idea. I think it's more accurate that they are in the "planning" stages. They plan to bus our kids to Clearlake.
