I sent the following email to Dr. Bobay and copied the rest of the board members on December 13th:
Dr. Bobay,
Thank you very much for speaking with me yesterday and clearing up some questions I had in regards to the soft redistricting proposal. I appreciate you taking the time to hear my concerns. Of course as soon as I hung up I had some more questions for you. Are the students from Kennedy and Jefferson Middle Schools being considered in the soft redistricting proposal? Both of those schools are closer to Clearlake Middle School than Space Coast is. What is the enrollment rate at Kennedy and Jefferson?
If this proposal is passed as it is now, how long does the board anticipate keeping the zoned areas in Port St. John at Clearklake? Will the remaining zoned areas of the 7-8 grade students in Port St. John be sent to Clearlake as at some point?
Thank you,
Mrs. Dawn Niehoff
His response received on December 19th:
Dear Mrs. Niehoff:
I received your e-mail of December 13, 2007. I appreciated the additional questions, as I was sincere in my encouragement to contact me if there were further questions. The students from Kennedy and Jefferson are not being considered in the soft redistricting proposal, as they are both under permanent capacity. Kennedy is at ninety-five (95%) of permanent capacity and Jefferson is at eighty-five (85%) of permanent capacity.
If the proposal were approved, it would be anticipated to be indefinite until projected membership changes indicate a need to change. It is not anticipated at this time that the remaining zoned areas of the 7/8 grade students in Port St. John would be zoned to Clearlake. Clearlake at this time cannot accommodate many more prospective students that are being considered. However, that being said, enrollment changes over time in the schools could necessitate a review.
Please feel free to contact me with further questions/comments.
Sincerely,
Ronald R. Bobay
Area IV Superintendent
