This blog is being started to discuss the various issues we have going on in the Port St. John community. Please remember that we would like to keep this a family friendly blog.
The first item, Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School changing to a High School and our Junior High students getting shipped off to other schools.
There have been so many emails going around about this issue so we figured this was the best place to start collecting our thoughts. Everyone has different backgrounds and different resources We need to work together to get the best learning environment for our children. Please make sure you read the comment sections.

This will be a great way to get our thoughts organized. In heated situations, emotions sometimes drain my thoughts from my head.
Here is my biggest concern from Brevard School board...
"Space Coast Jr./Sr. High: About 185 prospective middle school pupils would be sent to Clearlake Middle. The move would decrease Space Coast from 126 percent capacity to 111 percent and increase Clearlake's capacity from 59 percent to 90 percent. This group of pupils who could be zoned for Clearlake would go back to Space Coast for high school, while their classmates would attend Cocoa High."
Here's my thoughts on this...
> I heard this morning from a SCHS staffer that not even Enterprise 6th graders would be going to SCHS.
> Another point I would like to make... 185 students are noted to be bussed that represents 185 home owners who have been paying taxes with the understanding that a new middle school would be built.
> Even with the 185 sacrificial students bussed SCHS will still be over capacity which reiterates the need to build a new school. New homes are still being built here.
> It's time to voice our concerns to our school board. We need to write Robert Jordan ( jordanr@brevard.k12.fl.us ) and Dr. DiPatri ( dipatrir@brevard.k12.fl.us )
> With the price of gas today does it make sense to bus PSJ students out of PSJ?
The December 11th School Board meeting is open for us to observe, I called the school board. The meeting is at 5:30 at 2700 Judge Fran Jamison, Viera.
Let's all go to the school board meeting to observe and wear PURPLE to support Space Coast.
Gotta add, I just learned that this involves two separate area bus depots. Now PSJ schools are bussed by north depot drivers the change to Clearlake involves central area bus depot. Where is the sense in this?
i am not putting any thoughts as of the moment...but i would like to know if anyone knows where to find out information about how many students would fill each of the involved schools to capacity. enrollment numbers aren't what i am looking for i want know how many kids CAN be put into each school.
also another note...please when discussing this please remember the little ears that are listening...my daughter overheard that she may have to go to clearlake and that is a horrible unsafe school and isn't all that thrilled...there are plenty of nerves that our 6th graders are feeling right now lets not add to them! THANKS!
I called the school board yesterday to find a little more definition regarding boundaries. They were unable to provide anything more than what was in the newspaper which was very vague. The woman advised me that the board was to meet on December 11 to "discuss" it and come up with a plan.
Kristy Sanford sent an email to all the school board members and made a good suggestion. Challenger is nowhere near capacity and she suggested they convert that school in to a 6th & 8th grade school and shuffle the Challenger students to the other PSJ elementary schools. It keeps everyone in the same district.
