So I'm watching Sunday night news and there are the red and white smoke stacks I tell people to look for when traveling to my house. I guess those stacks have no filters and they are just spewing soot, among other stuff, all over PSJ. Here's the FLA Today article that tells you more...

I don't want to sound disconnected but I don't even know what to do with this information at the moment. It's not just my health, I have children growing up here.

I also live in Port St. John and am currently researching a few options on what to do about this news. I purchased a home here 2 years ago when my husband got stationed at Cape Canaveral. I am completely devistated by this news. We recently found out that we are going to have to move again early next year. This news has completely and totally devalued the cost of my home. Not only is my families health at risk, but I am sure to lose a fortune trying to sell my house in today's market with this problem to add to it. My father suggested looking into a class action lawsuit against FPL and Reliant Energy. I'm not sure who to talk to about this, but am actively looking into it. If I get any information that could help, I will let you know.
I understand from more recent news, that the smoke stacks are scheduled to undergo major overhaul in 2010. I'll try to find the FLA TODAY article. That is not that far off. The plan, as I understand it, is to put this station out of commision and out source the power need to nearby stations.
Another we really need to watch is how this will affect our local economy? They are scheduling to go offline on a power plant the same year that the shuttle will retire. How many jobs will be lost because of this?
I'm at a loss where to start a class action suit but I googled how to start a petition for the school board issue and got great 411 there.
