From this month's Happenings.
"Reliant Energy has established a community advisory panel to work with them on issues affecting or of interest to the community. The panel will be made up of key Reliant personnel from the PSJ plant, and 6 residents of the Port St. John community. The blog is at: ReliantAdvisoryPanel.blogspot.com
The email address is: ReliantAdvisoryPnl@att.net
A public-accessible blog and an e-mail address have been set up for residents to communicate with members of the panel. Topics can include anything that local residents find of interest, plus information from the Reliant plant on operations, events and changes that may be of interest to homeowners in Port St. John and surrounding communities.
Reliant has been a business partner with Atlantis Elementary for many years, and has recently stepped up to do some projects with Space Coast Jr/Sr High School as well. You may be surprised to find out about the many donations that have been made over the years, and still currently happen, from our neighbors at Reliant.
The PSJ Reliant plant is currently being run as a backup plan for peak usage times, and an emergency support plan for FPL when necessary. (I don’t want to mention hurricanes this month. It scares new residents.) Tropical storm Fay has pointed out the wisdom in having a backup plan for weather-created crises.
They have run a total of less than 5 weeks so far this calendar year. That leaves a lot of time with clean air. Don’t confuse the white steam you see rising from the stacks with debris-saturated emissions. It’s just water.
We’re hoping for a mutually beneficial exchange of information and concerns. It’s long past time we became good neighbors."
I am one of the members of this advisory panel and I hope it will be a great asset to the community.
