Response from Dr. Bobay

December 7, 2007

Dear Ms. Niehoff:

Dr. DiPatri contacted me and asked that I respond to your recent email. Please keep in mind that the current soft redistricting proposal is “information” for the School Board on December 11, 2007 and will again be reviewed at the January 22, 2008 School Board meeting. A specific staff proposal would be made after these two (2) meetings to the School Board in February, 2008 and action would be taken in March, 2008 based on planning to this point. My responses are based on the current information item scheduled for the December 11th meeting. You can locate the item on the District web site at www.brevard.k12.fl.us. The School Board item is H-13.

In answer to your questions Space Coast Junior Senior high School would continue to serve grades 7-12. It is anticipated that an estimated one hundred eighty five (185) prospective students (not currently enrolled in the school) in a designated area of Port St. John would receive services at Clearlake Middle School for grades 7 and 8 and return to Space Coast Junior Senior High School in grades 9-12. Students currently attending SCJSHS would continue in enrollment grades 7-8 or 9-12. Not all grades 7 and 8 Port St. John students would be served at Clearlake Middle School (CMS) since it does not have enough capacity.

The costs of transportation are being considered in these discussions. The District does own property to the west of SCJSHS. There currently is not sufficient membership to build this facility and there is some available space in an adjacent middle school membership attendance area (i.e. Clearlake Middle School) which would reduce the current need for as many relocatables at Space Coast Junior Senior High.

After you have had an opportunity to review my response and view the agenda item on the District web site, I would be available to talk with you via telephone or in person. If you should need assistance in accessing the agenda item, my office is also available to assist. I can be reached at 269-3826.

I appreciated the opportunity of sharing information related to your questions.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Bobay
Area IV Superintendent
