Superintendent Revises Soft Redistricting Recommendations

Process Delayed at the Secondary Level

VIERA—Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Richard A. DiPatri today announced that he is revising his soft redistricting recommendations that the Brevard County School Board will review at its Feb. 12 meeting. The revisions follow input received from the School Board at a special Feb. 8 workshop.

Among the revisions, DiPatri will recommend delaying any soft redistricting at the middle or high school level for at least one year (Southwest Middle School, Central Middle School, Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School, Clearlake Middle School, Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School, Satellite High School and DeLaura Middle School). This delay will give district officials additional time to evaluate population patterns. The district will also investigate the feasibility of building a classroom addition at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School, and revisit this issue in June.

Elementary school soft redistricting recommendations, with minor adjustments, will remain on the agenda. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Board Room at the Educational Services Facility in Viera.
