More budget cuts will be needed by the school district. One week after saving Resource officers at elementary schools and saving the contract teachers with less than 3 years, their jobs are in jeopardy again. New budget cuts in the the millions are needed.
School resource officers at 28 elementary schools, for instance, were spared by the school board last week, but likely will be in jeopardy again. Cutting the officers could save $342,000.
DiPatri worried months ago that he would have to lose 180 annual contract teachers. Those are newer teachers who are on a three-year probationary period. All have been spared so far.
Education Commissioner Eric Smith is holding each district's revenue hostage--withholding it from the schools. Based on projected decline in prospects in Florida.
