Jim Ford, Property Apppraiser's Objectives

Taken from keepford.com

These are the things that I feel need to be accomplished and I have the knowledge and experience to best pursue them.
  1. Get the legal date of assessment moved forward from January 1 of each tax year to June 1. This will allow for more fair and accurate valuations to be used on the notice of proposed taxes (TRIM) in August, especially in a declining market. View Recommendation
  2. Convince the legislature to abolish the “Recapture Rule”, an administrative rule which requires that the assessed value of capped homestead property automatically be increased 3% each year, even when market value is declining.
  3. Achieve the re-instatement of my “CAPIT” provision in the Brevard County Charter that caps annual increases in property tax revenue at 3%.
  4. Further expand tools and data available to the public on my office website.
