Letter from Jim Ford

Dear Taxpayers,

Serving you as Property Appraiser for 20 years with an unblemished record, I have been able to
accomplish many things, beyond the scope of my job that help you, the taxpayers. I coordinated the “Save Our Homes” assessment cap, founded “CAPIT,” the property tax cap petition initiative that amended the county charter and proposed the “Truth In Taxation” Charter Amendment that was approved by voters. I also created a state of the art website that provides property assessment and related information that is extensively used by the public for research.

Regrettably, my office has been harassed for two years by investigations, complaints, and frivolous lawsuits generated by a band of disgruntled ex-employees who conspired to destroy my administration with untrue accusations. As a result, considerable time and money have been spent to protect and defend this office from such unethical tactics.

I want to assure you that I have done nothing illegal and never provided favors to friends or contributors. My office is not “mired in scandal,” as stated by FLORIDA TODAY, but has been forced to deal with scandalous lies and underhanded tactics sensationalized by the media. That is exactly why I declined to be considered for endorsement by this paper.

In spite of all this, I have continued to run this office capably and with strength. It is important that this agency not fall into the hands of my opponent who has no appraisal experience and has displayed reckless and unstable judgment. Such a person might be manipulated by taxing authorities and likely controlled by former vindictive employees with whom he has already aligned.

I ask that you continue to allow me to serve as your Property Appraiser. Please visit KEEPFORD.COM to view more of my many accomplishments and ideas for the future. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Jim Ford, CFA
Brevard County Property Appraiser
