Makeup Days Canceled

One of the first actions of the new board was to cancel two school makeup days -- Dec. 22 and 23 -- in a unanimous vote. The dates had been scheduled as makeup days because of Tropical Storm Fay.

Florida Education Commissioner Eric Smith gave the board approval to nix the days Monday, after determining that students would have the legal amount of required instructional time during the semester.

Semester finals for secondary students will take place Dec. 17 to 19.
