A rogue idea was mentioned at the school board meeting, at the near end of the meeting, that idea was simply to close Clearlake Middle school. The students would be moved Cocoa High, making that a Jr/Sr. school.
This idea could work. I think the school board members need to be open to this option.
> Cocoa area has two middle schools with only 4 elementary schools feeding into them. That is one too many.
> Declining population in Cocoa? I cannot believe that the population in this area is increasing so the situation at Clearlake will worsen and students from other schools, or alas, more PSJ kids will have to be bussed into Clearlake to fill this school in the future.
> The current facility could be converted to alternative education, adult resource, offices anything.
> Perhaps the county sells the land? Maybe UCF or BCC want additional out buildings and classroom, convert two classrooms to one lecture hall. Dentention center? County offices of some sort? Send out feelers find out the answer. Not every answer is going to come from the people who work in the same system, the school board needs a fresh look from the outside.
IF they continue to feel the need to keep this declining school open then the school board needs to aggressively promote this school.
> Encourage the IB teachers at Cocoa Beach (CB) to come to Clearlake and work there--some sort of incentive program for the educators--make it a deal they cannot refuse.
> The 150 applicants that are not accepted at Cocoa Beach receive a beautifully written letter regretfully telling the very talented students that their first choice of schools is full but they have a guaranteed spot in the IB program at Clearlake which now includes the original teachers from CB.
> Every school of choice applicant that is not selected in any of the lotteries should receive a letter saying to check out the great program at Clearlake.
Well, I'm sure I'll have more but that's all I got for this one. Send your ideas to our school board members.
