Team Kyle Update - Great News!

Update from Kyle's Mom, Kari

"Well here is the great news.... The results from the bone marrow came back negative!!! That means no cancer cells were present, Hallelujah!!! This means that Kyle is in the Rapid Early Responders treatment plan now. I have tried to not read too far ahead, as to take things one step at a time so that I can understand everything better.

So I will tell you what appears to be next. He moves into the Consolidation phase and the purpose of this therapy is to kill any remaining leukemia cells. This phase lasts about 8 weeks and he will once again be on 6 chemo drugs. Two of the drugs are new to him so please pray that he doesn't have a reaction and his body accepts them. The drugs are: Cyclophosphamide, Cytarabine, Mercaptopurine, Vincristine, PEG-asparaginase, & Methotrexate, in case your bored and want to look them up (I know my friend Andrea in
Michigan will, love ya girl). I haven't discussed with the doctor yet as to the verification of this plan, it's just what they gave to us in the beginning. Kyle goes on Monday to Arnold Palmer for four of the chemo meds to be administered that day. We will have to stay the whole day but should be able to come home when everything is completed. So far, it looks like we'll just be there once a week for the next four weeks. Of course that's subject to change depending on blood transfusions if necessary.

So without over loading you with information, this is all I will report for now. I can tell you though that there are four more phases after consolidation; Interim Maintenance I, HD MTX, Delayed Intensification I, & then maintenance!!! I know it sounds like a lot but he will be through with it before you know it because this year is flying by... By the way, I really am ready for 2009!!! I don't like to rush time but 2008 has been very challenging.
Thank you for your continued prayers... THEY ARE WORKING!!! Kolby is healing great and Karissa's adjusting to her bubble (just kidding, but we certainly have her closely watched). We love you all and are very thankful to have you in our life!"

God Bless,
Kari and Family
